Why Choose an Oregon Coast Elopement?

The Oregon Coast has a vibe all its own, moody skies, rugged cliffs, and endless stretches of beach that feel untouched. Whether you’re drawn to the sea stacks or the quieter coves, there’s something about this coast that just pulls you in. The coast has a way of making your love story feel cinematic and real. Eloping here allows for space, physically and emotionally, to be present and soak in every moment.

Where to Elope in Oregon?
The Oregon Coast goes on for miles, with every turn showing you something quietly beautiful. From rugged cliffs to quiet, tree-lined coves, this coastline makes room for all kinds of love stories. Here are a few of my favorite spots, grouped by region, to help you find the one that feels most like you:

- North Coast:
- Cannon Beach is a classic for a reason. Haystack Rock makes for such an iconic backdrop, and the whole area has this dramatic, moody feel that photographs beautifully. If you want something a little more private, head just south to Arch Cape. It’s quieter, way less crowded, and gives you that tucked-away vibe for more intimate moments.
- Central Coast:
- Neskowin is one of those places that feels like a secret. Between the ghost forest, soft golden sand, and slower pace, it’s perfect if you’re looking for something peaceful without losing the gorgeous scenery.
- South Coast:
- Down in Brookings, you’ll find rugged cliffs and wide ocean views that feel raw and full of character. It’s a bit more dramatic than the other spots, which makes it a great pick if you’re drawn to big landscapes with lots of character.

When choosing your location, think about what resonates with your story, whether that’s a stay that speaks to you, a shoreline that feels like home, or a place tucked into the trees where you can breathe a little deeper.
What Each Season Feels Like on the Oregon Coast

- Spring
Spring has this soft, fresh energy that I really love photographing. The mix of sun and mist creates such interesting light, and the new greenery makes everything feel alive. It can be unpredictable, but that’s what makes the photos so unique. - Summer
Summer is busy, no way around it. But the long days and easy access to the beach are worth it. I love that we can stretch sessions later into the evening for those golden sunsets, it’s ideal if you want variety and a little adventure. - Fall
Fall might be my favorite. The coast quiets down, the light gets moodier, and the whole vibe feels more intimate. It’s such a good time if you want photos that feel calm, cozy, and personal without the summer crowds. - Winter
Winter is dramatic and honestly underrated. The waves are powerful, the skies shift constantly, and it pushes me creatively as a photographer. If you’re up for embracing the elements, the photos turn out raw and beautiful in a way you just don’t get any other time of year.

Do You Need a Permit to Elope on the Oregon Coast?

Some locations on the coast, especially state parks, require a special use permit for ceremonies and photography, or any formal setup. Others may be more flexible! The best place to start is the Oregon State Parks website or by contacting the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. If you’re considering a specific beach or park, look into the park’s individual website for permit details or call the nearest Oregon State Parks regional office for guidance.

If you’re eloping somewhere more remote or off the beaten path, you might not need a permit, but it’s always worth double-checking. I always recommend confirming ahead of time, and I’m happy to help point you in the right direction or work with your planner to make sure everything’s covered!
How to Get a Marriage License in Oregon

- You can apply for a marriage license through any Oregon county, no need to be a resident to get married here. There’s usually a 3-day waiting period, but most counties will waive it for a small fee if you’re on a tighter timeline. One thing I love about Oregon is that you don’t need witnesses, so your ceremony can be completely private if that feels more like you! After the elopement, just be sure to return the license to the same county where you got it.
Oregon’s process is straightforward, which is one of the many reasons why eloping here feels so grounded and accessible.
Best Time of Day to Elope

Sunset on the Oregon Coast is something else. The light gets soft and golden, and it just makes everything, from the ocean to the cliffs, feel warmer and more intimate. It’s one of my favorite times for portraits or vows. And honestly, even on foggy or overcast evenings (which happen a lot), the moodiness adds such a romantic feel to the photos.
What to Wear for Your Oregon Coast Elopement

Wear something that feels like you, something comfortable that lets you move naturally and enjoy the day. I love how flowing dresses catch the wind out here; the movement always looks amazing in photos. Layers are a good idea too, since the coastal breeze can sneak up on you! And don’t forget the details, accessories, or personal touches (like a favorite piece of jewelry or boots that can handle the cliffs and sand) make your photos feel even more true to who you are.

One of my favorite moments in Neskowin was Carli’s flowy gown and her bold jewelry added just the right personal touch; the entire look came alive in the golden hour light.
What to Pack for Your Oregon Coast Elopement

- Layers (coastal weather can shift quickly)
- Comfortable shoes for uneven or sandy terrain
- Wind-resistant hair products or clips
- Vow books, rings, and any meaningful keepsakes
- Champagne, snacks, and water
- Umbrella or rain gear (just in case)
It’s the small things like this that end up making you more comfortable, and that always shows in the photos and the way the day feels.
Where to Stay – Creating Space for Storytelling
Choosing a space that feels like you really adds to the whole elopement experience. I always suggest looking for cabins or Airbnbs with good natural light and a calm vibe, it makes such a difference for those in-between moments. One of my favorites is Our Plaace in Neskowin with its west-facing windows, ocean views, and warm, earthy tones. It’s such a peaceful spot for getting ready or just soaking in a quiet moment before or after your ceremony.

Other beautiful and cozy stays to consider:
- Swell House – A modern, minimal cabin in Oceanside with incredible views. It’s simple, peaceful, and such a good spot if you want a clean, serene space to relax in.
- The Headlands Coastal Lodge – In Pacific City, this one’s for couples who want a little luxury. Oceanfront balconies, a spa, and that cozy lodge vibe,it feels like a getaway and a wedding all in one.
- Bay Point Landing – Down in Coos Bay, this resort has a really thoughtful, design-forward feel. It’s quiet and calming, the kind of place where time slows down and the ocean always feels close.
- Sheltered Nook – Tiny homes in Tillamook that are quirky, charming, and surrounded by greenery. It’s a fun, heart-filled option if you’re looking for something a little different but still close to the coast.
These types of stays not only provide comfort but help create natural storytelling moments woven throughout your day.

Building a Meaningful Timeline
An Oregon Coast elopement isn’t about rushing from moment to moment. It’s about slowing down, letting the day unfold naturally, and savoring the experience together.

Here are some ideas to include in your timeline:
- Getting ready in your cabin with soft morning light

- A walk down to the beach
